Renzi Museum and Library

The former town hall, which is part of the fortified architectural complex belonged to the Malatestas between the XIII and the XVII centuries, hosts the Renzi Museum, one of the most ancient Italian museums founded in 1885 by Don Francesco Renzi. The museum houses and shows interesting materials related to human history concerning the area between the Marecchia and Rubicone valleys.
Next to the museum we find the ceramics laboratory, where skilled people display several objects and potteries that one can purchase. Here, activities and demonstrations for the museum's visitors are carried out (individuals, groups, schools).

Archaeology in Cesena

The Malatesta's Library, a jewel of the UNESCO “Memory of the World”, houses the Archaeological Museum, where important remains found in Cesena and surroundings on early prehistoric settlements, Roman times, Middle Ages and the Malatestas Age are kept. Here, play-educational workshops are organized, with the possibility of reproducing some objects related to the various historical periods.

The Town Hall hosts a mosaic that covers an area of 50 square meters and consists of a geometric design in black and white tessera; a defined area decorated with a figurative element used to highlight the threshold that enters the room and has been found during the excavation in Piazza Fabbri. Starting from the central Piazza del Popolo, it is possible to go cycling through the streets of the Roman Centurion, about 54 km discovering paintings, decumani and cardini (the Roman main road axis).

Upper and Medium Adriatic Marine Museum and Municipal Antiquarium

Along the harbor we find the Marine Museum with the Ground Section, located in a new building designed like an ancient dockyard, and the Floating Section, characterized by colorful “lugsails” with the symbols of fishermen families.
In spring, the event “School of Marine” is organized in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Archaeology and Naval Ethnography in order to discover an ancient and authentic method to live the sea, aboard traditional boats. In September the adventure of ArcheoCamp will guide children and young people in the approach to archeology in the excavation of Ca' Bufalini.

Along the harbor is also the Municipal Antiquarium, an interesting museum that tells the territory everyday life at the time of the Romans. Particularly important are the fragments of the two young and old statues found in the area of Ca' Turchi, at a brickwork dating back to the republican period.

Tobia Aldini Archaeological Museum

The impressive fourteenth-century Stronghold hosts the Tobia Aldini Archaeological Museum that preserves important pre-protohistorical finds, as the numerous firestones, ceramic fragments and bronze weapons show. Of equal importance are the ruins of the Roman city, whose huge floor mosaics, proceeding from the town domus are still preserved, together with everyday-use object such as wine amphorae. On the ruins of the Roman city, the medieval town centre had developed around the stronghold, built by Cardinal Albornoz.

The visit to this place is a real trip back in time on the history of the town and the territory; this is possible thanks to teaching workshops that provide an insight into the working methods of the archaeologist, in order to discover –while playing- how life was in prehistory, the use of prehistoric artifacts, the methods of food preparation and the written communication in Roman times.
