Cinemascope Itineray

Great cinema masterpieces often found Ferrara and its territory the ideal place for setting their stories, often dramatic, often tales of tormented existences and intense passions.
The city, the Po, the valleys and the Delta, have always been particularly fascinating for renowned Ferrara-born filmmakers such as Michelangelo Antonioni, Florestano Vancini or Folco Quilici, and more.

The river's landscape is the protagonist of famous documentaries, such as "Gente del Po" (the Po's people) dated 1943-47, or famous movies such as La donna del fiume ("The River's Woman") (1955) by Mario Soldati that consecrated a young Sofia Loren as an international star. The city of Ferrara was also the setting for several novels that inspired cinematographic masterpieces such as "Il giardino dei Finzi Contini" ("Finzi Contini Garden") and "Gli occhiali d'oro" ("Gold Glasses") directed by Vittorio De Sica in 1970 and Giuliano Montaldo in 1987, respectively. In 1995 Antonioni, in cooperation with director Wim Wenders, set between the cities of Ferrara and Comacchio a dramatic love story in the movie "Al di là delle nuvole" ("Beyond the Clouds"). Places and atmospheres that we find again in the most recent television series such as "Nebbie e delitti" ("Fog and Crimes") or "Amanti e segreti" ("Lovers and Secrets"): thriller and passions find their perfect movie set here.
