T'AMO: The Whole Adventure of Mosaic

In spring, the St. Nicholas complex will house a permanent exhibition that will illustrate the art of "making mosaic" starting from the origins to the present days. It offers excellent finds of the mosaic heritage of Ravenna and its territory, partly unpublished and dating back to ancient, late ancient and medieval ages, together with the works of modern and contemporary artists.

Besides the space reserved to temporary exhibitions, there will be two theoretical and practical workshops and a multimedia center that will explain the history of mosaics through interactive, multimedia and scenic designs.

St. Nicholas complex

The church of St. Nicholas was built in the second half of the thirteenth century as seat of the Augustinian hermits Order. At the end of the XVII century the chapels of St. Augustine and St. Monica were frescoed by the Augustinian Father Cesare Pronti, who was a pupil of Guercino.

During the XIX century, the building has been used for military riding, being unfortunately subject to continuous plunders until 1921. A systematic campaign to restore St. Nicholas Complex has begun in 1983. In its interior, the RavennAntica Foundation has created a showroom for exhibitions.
