The Land of Good Cuisine
Forlì and its nearby areas offer excellent oenogastronomic itineraries.
Forlimpopoli, nearby, is the hometown of Pellegrino Artusi, the father of Italian gastronomy. In 1891, Artusi published at his own cost "Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well", with a publication of 1,000 copies. After various initial difficulties, success struck in 1931, after 32 editions, Artusi’s book was one of the most popular books in Italy, along with "The Betrothed" and "Pinocchio", becoming a true great divide in the gastronomy culture of the time.
Every year in June, Forlimpopoli dedicates to its most famous citizen the great Artusi Festival and Casa Artusi was also founded in town, a gastronomy center dedicated to homemade Italian cuisine.
From the plain to the hills, where it is possible to discover the traditional wines of the area, Sangiovese, Albana, Trebbiano, Cagnina and Pagadebit, featuring an unmistakable bouquet.
The cuisine offers delicacies for every taste, from piadina (regional flat bread) which can be found both in the most famous restaurants and in kiosks along the streets, to soups and homemade pasta or tasteful meat dishes, up to the desserts, such as the crumbly ciambella cake.
