A Green City

The Public Gardens were created in 1816 based on a design by L. Mirri, architect, to show "the patriotic gratitude of the people of Forli" to Pope Pio VII. In 1820 G. Missirini designed the entrance gate, supported by four pillars ending with an "Etruscan" style sculpture, women’s heads, above which flower vases stood before being destroyed in the second postwar period. In 1828, the intervention of the municipal engineer  G. Santarelli brought a complete change to the original layout: the garden area was reduced and lifted in order to obtain a better drainage of rain waters;  pedestrian trails were separated from carriage roads, according to different itineraries, which are still usable today, creating a pleasant green oasis in the middle of the city.

The Urban Park Franco Agosto is a wide and green area immediately next to the old walls of the historic downtown, a few hundred meters from Piazza A. Saffi; it can be reached by bike or by foot through Corso Garibaldi, Via Cobelli and then Piazza Guido da Montefeltro and then by taking the underpass  800 meter cycle lane.

Forlì is mostly a city to tour by bike, thanks to the extended network of cycle lanes, which makes it particularly suitable for travel on "two wheels". However, for those who may prefer to discover the city by foot, every year the city hosts in October the Urban Trekking Day,  part of a national initiative promoted by the Municipal District of Siena.
