Gastronomic Appointments in Lands of Faenza
The forgotten fruits Festival
During an autumnal weekend there is nothing better than exploring the "Land of the herbs and forgotten fruits", in the heart of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines. This particular event takes place during the third weekend of October in Faenza. From the Saturday afternoon to the Sunday evening, the farmers of Casola Valsenio sell, at the street stands in the old city centre, autumnal fruits picked from old plants which have survived cultivation changes or from new plants cultivated after the regain of interest for rustic food.
The products of cultivated or wild fruit-bearing plants that once grew near the farmhouses, in fields or woods, were almost exclusively intended to domestic consumption or small local markets, so that they were one with the culture, mentality and way of living of the past peasant population, sharing at the same time their sudden disappearance.
Besides the market exhibition, a series of further dressing, decorations and reconstructions sends us back to the rural environment of the past.
