Food and Wine in Cervia
The Taste of Eating Well
Cervia's sweet salt, since 2004 a Slow Food protected product, uniquely characterizes local gastronomy, enhancing the Adriatic Sea's blue fish natural flavors and Romagna hinterland's quality meats.
The uniqueness of some local products among which Prugnolino (liquor distilled from blackthorn berries, a shrub thriving near salt mines), saltwort-flavored salt (a grass typical of salt basins), "sabbi" wines, or Cervia salted flatbread, offers guests the pleasure of the good cuisine. Not to be missed is Cervia salted chocolate, a local specialty.
In Cervia, as everywhere in Romagna, cooking is a cult: tagliatelle, cappelletti, strozzapreti, a glass of Sangiovese or white wine to accompany grilled fish, and a glass of Albana and ciambella cake as dessert.
Places that deserve a stop: the Fishermen's Club, a meeting place where it is possible to breathe the most authentic maritime atmosphere and to taste traditional Cervia fish dishes and visit the characteristic local market, where one can buy fresh-caught fish every day.
At the Aie House, an imposing two-storied farmhouse dating back to the eighteenth century, which once used to host the "pignaroli" then transformed in a restaurant, it is possible to enjoy traditional Romagna cuisine.
It is also necessary to stop at one of the colorful kiosks for a taste of flatbread with squaquerone and arugola.
Don't miss wine and gourmet cuisine events, including the Sepia's Festival in March and the Borgo Marina initiatives in summer.
