Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole
Castrocaro Terme
Situated in the rolling hills of the Apennines between Tuscany and Romagna, these municipalities conserve an extraordinary historic and architectural legacy because of their development and the important and prestigious role they still play in the area that can even be traced to the medieval times.
Visiting the historical centre of Castrocaro still enclosed in its three layers of walls, signifies immerging oneself in an antique fairytale setting in a medieval village, enriched by prestigious renaissance buildings.
Two very particular, precious and charming urban jewels are the St. Nicolas Square and the "Murata" (Walls), a renaissance microcosm where the baptistery and bell tower are erected.
The Fortress that dominates the village is one of the biggest medieval castles in Italy.
Terra del Sole
At Terra del Sole, one can still admire the surrounding walls with its rectangular layout and its four reinforced corner bastions. Its historic entrances and residential palaces are very well conserved like the "Porta Romana" (the Roman Door) which overlooks the Governor's Palace, and the "Porta Fiorentina" (the Florentine Door) which protected the Palace of the Captain of the Artillery. Monumental buildings like the Church of St. Reparata and the palaces of the Commissioner and Prefect, face the grand Arms' Square.
