Bertinoro: the Balcony of Romagna

An ancient medieval town with cobbled streets and squares, Bertinoro is known as the Balcony of Romagna: in the clear days, the view of the sea and hills is spectacular.
Piazza della Libertà (Freedom Square) with its splendid fourteenth century Palace, the  watch tower and the millenary Barbarossa Fortress on top of the hill, marks, still today, the important history of this town.

Hospitality is a famous tradition symbolized by the thirteenth century Column around which the great Festival of hospitality is celebrated. The Inter-faith Museum, a cultural jewel located inside the Fortress and the ancient San Donato a Polenta Parish Church celebrated in verses by Nobel Prize winner Giosuè Carducci and visited by Dante Alighieri are two destinations not to be missed.
Even the name Bertinoro reminds of the excellence of its wines: Berti-in-oro (drinking-you-in-gold) since Bertinoro’s wine deserves of being drunk in precious wine glasses. Albana, a white golden wine, and Sangiovese, ruby red, are two of the excellent wines produced by various wineries famous for their high quality.
At the foot of the medieval town, in the hamlet of Fratta Terme, it is possible to find the Spas, unique for their variety of waters, which are at the base of all health and wellness treatments offered by the renovated Spa Center.
